An Individualized Education Designed for How Students Learn Best

At Anchor Learning Academy, we believe curriculum should serve the student—not the other way around.

Every child enters with unique strengths, challenges, interests, and goals. Our small class sizes and individualized approach allow us to meet students where they are while helping them grow academically, socially, and emotionally.

Rather than expecting every student to move through the same lessons at the same pace, instruction is personalized to ensure meaningful progress and lasting confidence.

Language Arts & Writing

Strong communication skills develop through purposeful reading and writing every day.

Students engage in:

  • Literature studies

  • Read-alouds and guided discussions

  • Vocabulary development

  • Grammar and sentence structure

  • Paragraph and essay writing

  • The writing process, including planning, drafting, revising, and editing

Instruction is designed to build both confidence and independence.

Structured Literacy

Reading is the foundation of learning.

Students who need reading intervention receive daily structured literacy instruction using the Wilson Reading System®, an evidence-based program designed for students with dyslexia and other language-based learning differences.

Our Wilson-certified teachers provide explicit, systematic instruction in:

  • Phonemic awareness

  • Decoding and encoding

  • Fluency

  • Vocabulary

  • Reading comprehension

Students are grouped by instructional level rather than grade, and progress is monitored regularly to ensure continued growth.

Mathematics

Math instruction emphasizes conceptual understanding alongside procedural fluency.

Students learn through:

  • Small-group instruction

  • Hands-on learning experiences

  • Real-world problem solving

  • Individualized support

  • Opportunities for enrichment or remediation as needed

Students progress according to their readiness rather than feeling pressured to keep pace with a traditional classroom.

Science & Social Studies

Science and social studies encourage students to become curious thinkers and active learners.

Lessons include:

  • Inquiry-based investigations

  • Hands-on activities and experiments

  • Collaborative projects

  • Research and presentation opportunities

  • Connections to current events and the world around them

Executive Functioning

Success in school involves more than academics.

Throughout the school day, students receive direct support in developing:

  • Organization

  • Time management

  • Planning

  • Task initiation

  • Self-monitoring

  • Flexible thinking

  • Study skills

  • Self-advocacy

These skills are intentionally taught and practiced across all subject areas.

Learning Beyond the Curriculum

At Anchor Learning Academy, learning extends beyond textbooks.

Our classrooms encourage:

  • Critical thinking

  • Creativity

  • Collaboration

  • Problem solving

  • Independence

  • Confidence

  • Respectful relationships

  • A genuine love of learning

We celebrate growth, recognize individual strengths, and create an environment where every student feels capable of success.
